Where these listings come from

The source

Every listing starts as a record in Overture Maps, an open map dataset published by the Overture Maps Foundation. Overture combines business records contributed by Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare, BrightQuery and others. It's released under open licences (CDLA-Permissive-2.0 and Apache-2.0), which allow us to republish it.

How we clean it

• We keep places Overture classifies as lawyers, law firms, notaries, mediators and related legal services. Bail bonds, private investigators, process servers and court reporters are left out.
• We drop places marked permanently closed, low-confidence records, and any listing without a phone number or website.
• Where the same firm appears more than once in a city, we merge the records into one listing.
• Practice areas come from Overture's category for the firm and from the firm's own name (a firm called “Smith Immigration Law” is listed under immigration). We never guess beyond that, so many firms show “practice areas not listed”.

The current build has 238,636 firms in 10,150 cities, refreshed 2026-10-09.

What order firms appear in

Firms with more complete public details (a website, a phone number, known practice areas) come first, then the rest alphabetically. That order says nothing about how good a firm is. No firm can pay to move up, and we don't show star ratings we haven't verified.

What we don't do

We don't sell this data or use it to contact the firms listed. We don't give legal advice or refer you to a lawyer. Being listed doesn't mean we've checked a firm's credentials, so please confirm a lawyer's licence with the regulator in their state or province.
